Competition Team Tryout Information

Tryouts for the 2023-2024 Competition Team are now closed. Rising 2Ls and 3Ls are invited to join our Moot Court family by trying out for the UC Law SF 2024-2025 Moot Court Competition Teams!

Competition team members are selected from open try-outs held in the Spring. Applicants are evaluated holistically and selected based on a writing sample from their Legal Research & Writing 2 course, a short oral argument, a personal interview, and class performance. 150 to 200 students try out for the Intercollegiate Moot Court Competition teams each year. Moot Court competitions provide a valuable practical training experience and are an opportunity to bolster students’ résumés, establish good contacts in the legal community, and achieve a great sense of accomplishment, teamwork, and school spirit.

Applications will be available online starting in March 2024. Application materials for new and returning members will be made available online mid to late March 2024. The application materials include the application form, copies of competition briefs for you to use during oral argument, and a FAQ sheet.

Applications will be due April 2024 for all students. Once you submit your materials, you can sign up for an oral argument tryout time slot. The signup sheet will be virtual and instructions on accessing the sheet will be made available when application materials are distributed.

Try-out Dates: April 2024

Please note that all students selected for a competition team must enroll in Appellate Advocacy during the Fall semester.
